Dr. Shardul Phadnis moderated a panel session on the implications of internet of things (IOT) for transportation at the 14th edition of the Asia IOT Business Platform in Kuala Lumpur on July 27, 2017. In the session titled “Smart Transportation and Logistics,” he facilitated a discussion among three experts in the field of passenger and freight transportation, representing two major public transportation organizations in Malaysia (Prasarana and Mass Raid Transit) and a global leader in the development of driverless trucks (Scania).
Dr. Phadnis asked the panelists to explore the non-technical, but critical business concerns that would affect the adoption of IOT in the transportation domain, such as the challenges of making a business case for IOT implementation, building an updatable transportation system to upgrade with technological advances, and the roles of government and the public in seeing the use of IOT on public roads.
