Program Overview
Scenario planning is a strategic planning method used for more than 50 years by government and private-sector organizations to make long-term and strategic decisions. It is used for making decisions about investing in assets when the (long-term) future in which the assets get deployed is unpredictable.
Program Objective
This two-day course is designed to introduce Scenario Planning through an active engagement of the student participants. The course begins with several real-world examples showing the difficulty of predicting the business environment and argues for the use of Scenario Planning to use to make long-lasting strategic decisions. The participants learn to develop scenarios for a case chosen for the exercise, by systematically assessing the uncertainty in the business environment.Finally, the participants apply the developed multiple scenarios to aid strategic decision making for the case.
