Faculty Positions – Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (MISI) The Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (MISI) is one of the centers of the MIT Global SCALE (Supply Chain and Logistics Excellence) Network an international alliance of leading-edge research and education centers, dedicated to the development and dissemination of global innovation in supply chain and logistics. Together, this network of centers educates hundreds of master’s students, doctoral candidates, and executives each year. MISI is recruiting for two faculty positions at the Associate and Assistant Professor Level to support research activities in the area of transportation logistics and supply chain management and to teach in the graduate (Master & PHD) and executive education programs at MISI

Responsibilities

Faculty members are responsible for advancing the center’s mission of excellence in education, research, and corporate engagement. All faculty members are expected to develop, design, and deliver world-class teaching material at the master and doctoral levels. As part of the research team, faculty members are responsible for creating, supporting, and disseminating new knowledge in logistics, supply chain management, and related fields. Faculty are expected to conduct high quality research in collaboration with industry and government; supervise theses; publish in top international journals, academic proceedings, trade journals, and working papers; and participate fully in all industrial and educational programs offered and supported by the MIT Global SCALE centers. Faculty members are expected to work with and be in regular contact with researchers, educators, and thought leaders (academic and industry) across the world, including researchers at MIT and the international MIT Global SCALE Network centers.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess:

  1. A PhD in supply chain management, transportation, logistics, operations management, information systems, engineering, economics, business, or a related discipline;
  2. International exposure, reflected in publications, projects, conference participation and guest lectures;
  3. Ability to develop and deliver lectures and class material in English at the graduate level (both Masters and Doctoral);
  4. Ability to generate sponsored research and promote technology transfer and entrepreneurship;
  5. Ability to communicate with industry, give presentations, and lead meetings in English.

Post Doctoral Research Associate

Job Title: Post Doctoral Research Associate

This unique Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is hosted by the Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (MISI) at one of its Centers of Excellence viz. The Center for Sustainable Value Networks (CSVN) at Shah Alam near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This research associate will examine the upstream oil palm supply chain and work with existing qualitative and quantitative data collected from a multi-year project. The candidate will be primarily responsible for conducting analysis of existing data sets, assisting and taking leadership in writing manuscripts for publication in reputed journals. The current position is for two years with a yearly renewal and a possibility of extension beyond two years depending upon funding and performance. The candidate should be comfortable traveling locally within Malaysia.

An ideal candidate will have demonstrated research and leadership in supply chain sustainability. Additional responsibilities include – working with project sponsors, stakeholders and research staff in all matters related to the project. Candidates are expected to support center activities when appropriate including presenting results and findings to various audiences. Good presentation skills desirable.

REQUIREMENTS:

An ideal candidate will have a PhD in a Supply Chain, Sustainability, Industrial Ecology, Social Sciences, Agri-Business or a related discipline.  Proficiency with English writing and communication with excellent technical writing skills are a must. Experience with field work and engaging with industry and producers is preferred.

In-depth knowledge of at least one of the following research areas is required

  • food and agri-supply chains
  • supply chain sustainability
  • value chain analysis
  • commodity supply chains

Candidate must have published (or have a strong pipeline) in journals related to sustainability, supply chain and operations management, logistics or a related discipline such as above and have experience with research methodology based on both qualitative and quantitative data. Knowledge of statistical software and analytics tools is highly desirable. Preference will be given to those with both methodological and practical work experience.

Assistant Field Officer

Job Title: Assistant Field Officer

The Center for Sustainable Value Networks or CSVN is a center of excellence at the Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (MISI). CSVN has partnered with an MNC to create a program initiative called CSS or Center for Sustainable Small-owners. The CSS is aimed at safeguarding the interest of the independent smallholder farmers for oil palm while ensuring ethical and responsible sourcing for palm kernel oil with a commitment to no deforestation, no new plantation on peatlands and no exploitation in the supply chain.

As a multi-stakeholder program, CSS runs various sustainability initiatives such as:

  • Certification and Verification through MSPO, RSPO and Sustainability Scorecard
  • Scaling GAPs (Good Agricultural Practices) through Diffusion
  • Establishing Tractability and Credence through the Oil Palm Supply Chain
  • Sustainability Reporting through Oil Palm for an MNC

Job Description

The Assistant Field Officer will be responsible to support all farm and non-farm related initiatives and provide operational support to officer(s) in charge.

  • Continuous engagement with existing and new Collection Centres(CC) and Dealerships to facilitate sustainability initiatives.
  • Records information, such as production, farm management practices, and prepares operational reports.
  • Build good relationship with project stakeholders i.e. local farmers, dealers, super dealers, govt. agencies, certification bodies, etc.
  • Establish continuous data collection from relevant project stakeholders i.e. Mills, CC, Super Dealer.
  • Supporting Smallholder Livelihood Improvement project based on set guidelines and goals.
  • Ready to be trained by Agronomist and Field officers and transfer knowledge to Learning Farms.
  • Coordinate and supervise sampling activities for Learning Farms.
  • Manage learning farms data collection on FFB Supply and Demand, nutrient management, water usage, fertilizer usage, harvesting cycle, Pesticide usage, etc
  • To support CSS team for organizing events such as, field visits, workshops, certification drive, etc.

 

Job requirements

  • Graduate from a standard vocational or high school supplemented by some college course work in agriculture; and extensive experience in general farm work involving farm planning, methods, and production; and experience in supervisory of farm work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • At least 1-3 years of working experience as Field Assistants / Officer or similar role in Plantation.

Finance Executive

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for a Finance Executive to be responsible for preparing and maintaining the full set of financial accounts for MISI including Account Payable & Receivables. You should be able to assist in handling the monthly/quarterly/annually financial books closing.

  • Handle full set of accounts including Account Receivable and Payable.
  • Timely preparation of monthly journal entries, reconciliation of accounts and related monthly financial statement schedules
  • Assist with timely & accurate month end closing
  • Perform filing and keep track of documentation
  • Assist in Fixed Asset Register
  • Ensure that financial transactions are properly updated and recorded
  • Assist in annual financial audits and corporate tax reporting

 

Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Prepare and process monthly payments, manual/ad-hoc payment process and to ensure payments are up-to-date.
  • Prepare supplier reconciliation and investigate variances.
  • Follow up with the vendors and internal business department on invoices/approvals.
  • Communicate with vendors and respond to inquiries.
  • Perform month end closing for AP.
  • Maintain vendor master file.

 

Accounts Receivable (AR)

  • Responsible for full spectrum of invoicing and AR functions, including billing/invoicing, AR monitoring, receipts, loan contracts preparations for students and credit notes processing.
  • Checking of all invoices, receipts and credit notes against supporting documents.
  • Ensure proper and accurate recording of accounting entries for invoices, receipts and credit notes.
  • Preparation of balance sheet schedules and performance of reconciliations for AR and other receivables accounts.
  • Timely distribution of statement of accounts to debtors.
  • Perform month end closing for AR.
  • Preparation of debtors ageing analysis.

 

Job Requirements 

  • Candidates should have a Master’s degree from a reputable university in a finance-related discipline and/or ACCA. They should be highly motivated and able to function successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  • At least two (2) to five (5) years' experience in preparing full set of accounts, Accounts payable and receivables
  • Proficient in Excel & good knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Proactive attitude, high level of integrity, and strong interpersonal skills

Job Description:
This position is at the Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain Innovation (MISI) under MISI’s Center for Sustainable Value Networks (CSVN). The main deliverable will be to support an Oil Palm Smallholders program through the Center for Sustainable Small-owners (CSS). The project will be renewed yearly until its completion.

The individual will be responsible to scope solutions, write requirements specifications and support projects towards establishing transparency and traceability of oil palm Supply Chain through digitalization. As a key interface or liaison between the system developer and users, the candidate should be comfortable traveling locally within Malaysia.

Responsibilities:

  • Review, analyze and evaluate business and operational requirements for the various sustainability initiatives, translate them to detailed user requirements and functional specifications for implementation by the system development team.
  • Lead the user-testing efforts and liaise closely with the system developer and other project stakeholders.
  • Prepare technical reports by gathering and analyzing information, provide recommendations to address existing and potential area of concerns
  • Maintain user confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing program outputs as needed. This will involve in coordinating various initiative items related to digitalization across the different sustainability initiatives.

Job Requirements
A Master’s or a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, software engineering, business, IT or equivalent with minimum 3 years’ experience preferably in a similar role. An ideal candidate will have a proficiency in Bahasa and English writing and excellent communication skills and may have a relevant degree in social sciences as well. A keen interest in sustainability and related disciplines with strong analytical thinking and problem solving skills is a must.

Deputy Academic Registrar

The Deputy Academic Registrar’s supports the Academic Registrar in providing
leadership to the administration team in planning, organizing and managing activities
related to;

TASK AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To assist the Academic Registrar on the following;

  • The university student records by collecting, recording, maintaining and
    reporting of students records as per guidelines

    • Organize and administer the records, registration, graduation
      functions and any events or functions that are not limited to
      convocation ceremony;
    • Ensure compliance with other educational regulatory agencies’
      policies, procedures and required legislation e.g; familiarity with MoE,
      MQA and the Department of Immigration policies and requirements
    • Ensure compliance to MISI Academic Affairs Quality Assurance;
  • To liaise with senior staff to ensure the efficient and effective exchange of
    information and the execution of procedures relating to the work of the office
    and provide consistent, accurate and detailed data to support internal
    monitoring and external reporting requirements
  • Collaborate with Management, Faculty and Directors to facilitate and improve
    services to students and staff.
  • Develop and administer the departmental budget
  • Overseeing and monitoring the university’s facilities (maintenance and repair)
  • To manage and oversee the convocation ceremony to ensure positive student, guest and stakeholder experiences.
  • To ensure the library fulfills the academic requirements of students and staff
  • To oversee the IT unit policy, needs and requirements
  • To work with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational goals

 

REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must have a PhD, ideally in a relevant field to Supply Chain
Management and have at least five (5) years’ experience within a similar role or
environment.

  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills in Bahasa
    Malaysia and English;
  • Able to work with diverse populations;
  • Ability to plan and manage change;
  • Literate in IT, HR and financial matters;
  • Ability to plan and manage change from conceptualization to successful
    implementation;
  • Close familiarity with MoE and MQA Academic Infrastructure, Framework for

JOB DESCRIPTION
The main responsibility is to support an Oil Palm Smallholders program through the Center for Sustainable Small-owners (CSS) for its “Certification & Compliance initiative”. The candidate should be comfortable travelling locally within Malaysia. The job may require travelling up to 20% of the time primarily to the project field office at Johor.

The certification initiative is supported by “sustainability journey” which includes the following relevant activities:

  • Introduction and briefing with the small farmers
  • Preliminary and detailed engagement with small farmers
  • Document collection and verification
  • Risk assessment for internal audit (for defined standards)

Deliverables:
The main deliverables are to help enable smallholders in a selected super dealer account holder network to be RSPO-certified by June 2022. The position will be supported by at least 2 other team members working on the certification initiative. Targets are planned quarterly.

Responsibilities:

  • Support development of Smallholders Association as the legal entity for RSPO Certification
  • Prepare and deliver a quarterly report, based on the progress of MSPO & RSPO certification milestones and key deliverables.
  • Review audit reports and respond to the certification body.

REQUIREMENTS
A Masters or a Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with experience in engaging small farmers. Proficiency in Bahasa and English writing and communication with excellent writing skills.
