Program Overview

Get the most from Microsoft Excel!

Microsoft Excel is widely used in industries, education sectors and business organizations. Excel is user friendly and serves as a tool for data analysis. This course provides introduction to the basic functions of Excel as well as performing data analysis using statistical techniques to gain insights from data. The ultimate of the course would be creating the dashboard for the visualisation of the data. The course is designed for those who have little knowledge of using Excel and also for those who use Excel regularly and want to enhance their skills in using Excel.

This course covers basic operations in Excel, such as reading data from various data formats, organizing and managing data, data exploration through creative visualization charts to more advanced functionality of Excel in data analysis. Participants will acquire the skills of using Excel through hands-on and step-by-step instructions using easy-to-understand examples and illustrations. These skills will be useful for analysing data for real practical problems.

Curriculum

Day 1

Data Exploratory and Data Handling using Pivot Table (1.5 hours)
The participants will be exposed to excel spreadsheets and will learn how to work with the formulas and functions. For exploring and data handling, participants will be introduced to pivot tables as a data summarization tool. It is one of the most important and widely used features available in Excel.

Descriptive Analysis and Excel Charting (2 hours)
In this session, participants will be guided to basic descriptive statistics such as statistics summary and how to visualize data as appropriate graphics.

Data Analysis (2.5 hours)
Participants will explore the data analysis tools available in Excel to conduct data analysis such as a simple hypothesis testing, correlation and regression analysis.

Day 2

Introduction Excel Dashboards (1.5 hours)
The participants will be introduced with an Excel dashboard which is as good as any other analytics tools.

Interactive Excel Charting and Formula for Dashboard (2 hours)
Using Pivot Table to create Pivot Chart and converting ready charts into an interactive and self-explanatory dashboard. Participants will be taught how to create interactive formulas into the dashboard to make it more appealing and informative.

Case Studies – Create your own Dashboard (2.5 hours)
The participants will be given a set of data as a case study. The participants need to apply their knowledge gained from the course to analyse and prepare an appealing visualization / dashboard to potential end users.
