The Center for Sustainable Value Networks (CSVN) at MISI Conducts Workshop to Design Scorecard for Baseline Sustainability Assessment for Oil Palm

18 May 17

The Center for Sustainable Value Networks (CSVN) at MISI hosted a two day workshop on 3rd and 4th May 2017, with 25 participants from 12 different industry, government, universities and non-governmental organizations as part of its on-going sustainability research initiative for the Oil Palm. The initiative which started at MISI in 2014 is now in its third year where several other partners brought on board to leverage from the initial model and findings provided by the CSVN.
Three pilot projects were proposed by MISI which are under execution in the state of Johor. As these pilots are approaching maturity, all project implementation partners came together at MISI to create a common baseline sustainability assessment scorecard that could be leveraged for the industry. The scorecard is based upon tools as Baseline Assessment Surveys in the form of Individual Questionnaires, Facilitated Group Discussions (FGDs) and key informant interviews (KII).
The Baseline Assessment Survey was developed from the sustainability assessment criteria for Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO) as proposed by Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO).
