Program Overview

In the current digital and new norm era, large amounts of data, or Big Data can be analysed to gain insights which are useful for decision making. Data analytics is the science of analysing raw data in order to get meaningful information for decision making. Meanwhile, Big Data is characterized by different structured and different sources of mediums that can increase the data complexity.

Is this course for you?

There are many available tools for data analytics tasks with essential components and a collection of machine learning algorithms. In this course, the participants will acquire the skills of using machine learning algorithms in available tools to solve predictive analytics problems. These include data preparation, data pre-processing, model building, pattern discovery and evaluation. This course offers a practical, hands-on and step-by-step instruction on developing your data analytics skills using open source, such as Python, R or WEKA and commercial tools such as IBM SPSS Modeler.

The course will be conducted by using ONE of the available tools and the participants will apply the selected tool for the whole course.

Program Content Highlights

  • 12+ Hours live online instructor-led hands-on based learning
  • Training includes: soft copy of training materials.
  • Using real-life problem dataset for hands-on

All our short courses are under HRDCorp claimable course (SBL-Khas) scheme, subject to prior application to HRD Corp by the employers/companies.

Curriculum

Day 1

Introduction to Data Analytics and Big Data (1.5 hours)

The participants will be exposed to the types of data analytics, source of data and different types of models. The types of model will be discussed with the suitable Machine Learning algorithms for development and evaluation.

Data Preparation and Pre-processing (2 hours)
Data preparation and pre-processing is an important step to explore and clean data prior to modelling and analysis. The collected data normally contains noise and outliers, so the data will be processed for a more structured form.

Predictive Model Development using Machine Learning Classifier I (2.5 hours)
Model development involves training and testing for deployment purposes. The Machine Learning classifiers are among the common algorithms used for the model development.

Day 2

Predictive Model Development using Machine Learning Classifier II (1.5 hours)
Model development continues for prediction/classification. The participants would explore the model development alternatives through different algorithms and through different sets of data.

Model Evaluation and Result Analysis (2 hours)

Model evaluation is required in determining the performance of the developed model. Some of evaluation metrics are accuracy, Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves, precision and recall. These metrics can be included in the result analysis.

Case Studies – Solve your problem (2.5 hours)

The participants will be given case studies and understand the problem. The participants need to apply their knowledge from the beginning of the course. As a team in a project, the participant needs to deliver reports and technical documents and know how to present the outcome for model development. The participants should also understand that it is an iterative process and to remain useful and accurate, the model needs to be constantly reevaluated, retrained, and developed with new features.
